Despite the rain both Andy Davis representing our men and Shirley Bain representing our women bowled well in St. Mary's yesterday. Shirley won the title and will go on to Ottawa for the Provincial Novice Singles. That's another OLBA pennant for our club, congratulations Shirley and Andy for getting there.
GCLBC Novice Single Playdowns
Here we go again. It was a small field with only two women and four men competing for the chance to represent Grand Cove in the district playdowns in St. Mary's next weekend but once again there was no shortage of drama.
On the women's side it was Roz MacDonald vs Shirley Bain in a best 2 out of 3 contest. Shirley won a close game before going on to defeat Roz 2 straight so Shirley will represent GCLBC in the district playdowns in St. Mary's.
Thanks to Brian for umpiring and getting the greens ready along with all the markers for the day - Ken, Linda, Robert, Charles and Loretta. Thanks Mark for the coffee and pastries.

Meanwhile on the men's side it was another long day featuring games of 21 ends and longer before tie-breakers to decide our champion. The format calls for the first bowler to 21 pts to be the winner. Paul Wybrow, Frank Beattie and Andy Davis all finished with 2-1 records forcing tie-breakers. In the first tie-breaker Frank defeated Paul in a five end game. In the championship game Andy made shot after shot to defeat Frank and claim the title. Andy Davis will represent our club next weekend in St. Mary's.

Maxwell Rice Tournament
It was another successful OLBA tournament for our Grand Cove Lawn Bowling Club. We were the perfect hosts with the top 4 teams coming from outside our club. We did get rave reviews for our greens and food and rightfully so. Travis and his grounds crew did a great job with the greens and once again Mark, Doug and Ann outdid themselves with breakfast and lunch. Thanks to Draw Masters Ken, Linda and Paul and all the volunteers who helped with set-up and tear down. We think Mr. Rice would have been proud of his club today (as always click on photos to enlarge them).
